I just wanted to THANK YOU Steve for your common sense advice, "Alarm goes off->get up immediately. Alarm goes off->get up immediately. Alarm goes off->get up immediately." What a concept! I, like so many others, have fallen into the HABIT of hitting the snooze button several times every morning. I have made every excuse as to why I do not wake well in the morning and I have also the made the "mental beatings" a part of my habit. I have come to a point where I am fed up with the excuses and humility of ALWAYS BEING LATE! When I read your website on"How to get up right away when your alarm goes off" I was overwhelmed with relief and excitement. This was the resolution to my problem. After being late for work or having to rush to get to work to avoid being late every day, I was ready for a change. I first read your message on Saturday 3/15/08. I performed the practice runs twice Saturday night. The next morning, I awoke for work at 6:00 AM to the sound of my alarm clock. I was absoultely amazed at what happened next........I ACTUALLY GOT STRAIGHT UP OUT OF BED! No snooze button, no lame excuses to lay in bed for just a few more minutes, nothing more than simply a deep breath, a stretch and out of bed I rose. It is only just Tuesday, 3/18/08, but I have managed to not only be on time for work every day, I am actually arriving early at this point. What a huge difference! I am so proud of myself! I owe it all to my resolve to change and to the message on your website. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate this article. I have 2 children...8 and 1, and I fight every day to get my son to school on time...then beat myself up because I rush him. That's not fair to him, I know, but I've done everything I know to try to wake up. You are right when you say that the 5am mind is in a brain fog. I set my clock fast, then my alarm early, and hit snooze 6-7 times so that I can be up by 6:30 to get him around for school. Pretty sad...I know. I've read several responses here...and someone even said that the author of this article is a moron. Well, I appreciate any moron who will be kind enough to give advice on what helped them. He didn't say it would help everyone, so I don't understand the harsh words, of course, some people feel that the world revolves around them and that they must voice their opinion about everything when they often know nothing...I mean how many trials has this naysayer done on himself? I will definately give the tips in this article a try...it has to be better than waking my husband (a light sleeper) 6-7 times a morning...or him finally getting up out of frustration.

To help the "Unconscious effort" I put the alarm clock across the room. I have to turn it off before it wakes my Wife, so I'm out of bed before I think about sleeping in.

You need about 6h or 6,5h to be totally fit and to be healthy. I do not think that you need to wake up at 5:15am. That's just an example but in general 6h oder 6,5h should be enough. So it does not matter if you go to bed at 11pm and wake up at 6am oder you go to bed at 2am and wake up at 8am or 9am, because where is the difference? The only difference is the time you go to bed and you wake up but you slept the same hours. Why should this be unhealthy?

Is it unhealthy to have lunch at 3pm and breakfast at 10am whereas everyone has lunch at 1pm and breakfast at 8am?
